2. Principle
Cocktailline is built to collect as little personal data as possible. There are no user accounts for visitors, no newsletters, no comments, no advertising and no social media plugins.
3. Hosting and server log files
When you visit this website, the web server or our hosting provider automatically processes information transmitted by your browser: IP address, date and time of access, requested file/URL, amount of data transferred, HTTP status code, referrer URL as well as browser type and operating system.
This data is technically necessary to deliver the website and ensure its security. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Log files are stored for a maximum of 7 days and then deleted, unless further retention is required for evidentiary purposes. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with the hosting provider.
4. Cookies and local storage
Visiting this website sets no cookies. That's why there's no cookie banner here.
The only exception in browser storage: When you select ingredients under “My Bar”, your browser remembers this selection in local storage so you don't have to enter it again on your next visit and recipe pages can show you what you already have. This list is never transmitted to our server, cannot be viewed by us and serves exclusively the function you explicitly use (§ 25 Abs. 2 Nr. 2 TDDDG). You can delete it at any time with “Clear all” or via your browser settings.
If you switch the site's language, your browser also remembers this choice in local storage so you aren't redirected to your browser's language again on your next visit. This, too, stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
For the editorial team (login to the admin area), a technically necessary session cookie is set. This does not affect visitors.
5. Anonymous audience measurement
So we know which recipes are read and whether the site loads quickly, we collect minimal, anonymous statistics – exclusively on our own server, without cookies and without third parties. For each page view we store:
- the page visited and time, the referring website (domain name only),
- rough categories of browser, operating system and device type (the full user agent is not stored),
- screen width, browser language and your device's time zone (used to roughly derive the country – no IP-based geolocation takes place),
- time on page, scroll depth and technical load times (Web Vitals),
- anonymous events such as “ingredient selected” (only the ingredient name, e.g. “Gin”), search terms in the recipe search, “recipe shared” or “servings changed” – with no link to you or the rest of your selection.
- clicks on affiliate links: which product and which Amazon store (e.g. amazon.fr) – also without any link to you,
To count visitors without recognizing them, a hash is created from the IP address and browser identifier using a random key that is regenerated every day and then deleted. The IP address itself is not stored. This rules out recognition across days or across other websites, and no conclusions can be drawn about you personally.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving our service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Raw data is deleted after 13 months. If you have enabled “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” in your browser, nothing is collected at all – which is also your simple way to object.
6. No third-party content
All resources – fonts, scripts and images – are loaded exclusively from this server. No connections to third parties (e.g. Google Fonts, CDNs, YouTube) are established. A strict Content Security Policy enforces this technically.
7. Affiliate links (Amazon)
Cocktailline contains affiliate links to the Amazon Associates program (Amazon EU S.à r.l., 38 avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg). They are marked with an * or labeled “Ad”. Only when you click such a link are you redirected to Amazon; Cocktailline's partner code is passed in the address so that Amazon can attribute a commission. On Cocktailline itself, no cookies are set for this and no data is sent to Amazon as long as you don't click.
Depending on the language and region of your browser, the links take you to the Amazon store for your country (e.g. amazon.fr or amazon.com). This choice happens in your browser; nothing is stored or sent to us.
On its own pages, Amazon sets its own cookies and processes data (e.g. that the visit came via our link) under its own responsibility. Details: Amazon's privacy notice. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We count clicks on affiliate links anonymously in our own analytics (product name only, see section 5).
8. Ingredient finder and search
Matching your ingredients with the recipes happens entirely via JavaScript in your browser. Your ingredient list is not sent to the server for this. If you share a link with ingredients in the address (e.g. /bar?z=gin,limette), you decide who you give it to.
9. External links
This website contains links to external sites (e.g. to the sources of photos). Only when you click such a link do you leave this site; the respective provider is responsible for data processing there.
10. Encryption
The website is delivered exclusively via a TLS-encrypted connection (HTTPS).
11. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR).
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), e.g. the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
